Hornet Leadership and Service

Award

The Hornet Leadership and Service Award is for undergraduate student leaders who attend J.P. Morgan Chase (JPMC) sponsored leadership development sessions (five sessions) and demonstrate experience in career-related leadership roles on campus - or within external organizations. Scholars must also engage in 30 hours of community service within the academic school year and provide verification of both their leadership and community service experiences. The award is a stipend of $5000.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible applicants will meet the following requirements for the Hornet Leadership & Service Award scholarship:

  • Full-time or part-time currently enrolled DSU undergraduate student
  • Demonstrates academic promise
  • Completes five leadership development sessions hosted by the Office of URELAH, JPMorgan Chase National Bank, or the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS)
  • Proof of leadership role on DSU campus or external organizations
  • Proof of 30 hours of community service within the academic calendar year



Application Requirements

  • Verification of attending five (Fall 2023-Spring 2024) leadership development sessions: (URELAH – Hornet Leadership Academy(HLA) - ITP, HLA - Leadership Development Sessions, Empower Student Leadership Conference, JPMC sponsored sessions)
  • Verification of 30 community service hours completed within the academic school year
  • Color headshot
  • Resume (tailored for this purpose)
  • Current transcript (unofficial)
  • Two Recommendation Letters (one DSU faculty, department, or college & one community)

Academic Excellence Award for Higher GPA

The Academic Excellence Award for Higher GPA (grade point average) is a $5000 scholarship awarded to a currently enrolled DSU undergraduate student. The applicant must have the highest recorded cumulative GPA (GPA of 3.25 or higher) confirmed by the Office of Registrar. The award is a stipend of $5000.


Eligibility Requirements

Eligible applicants will meet the following requirements for the Academic Excellence Award for Higher GPA:

  • Full-time or part-time currently enrolled DSU undergraduate student

URELAH Research Award

The URELAH Research Award is available for all undergraduate student presenters at Research Day whose individual presentation and research paper will be judged on specified matrix, content, significance, impact, and presentation. The award is a stipend of $5000.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Full-time or part-time currently enrolled DSU undergraduate student
  • Demonstrates academic aptitude



Application Requirements

  • Verification of presentation at DSU Research Day 2024
  • Submit a two to three-page typed narrative report on your project. The report should assess the outcomes of your project
  • Your narrative report should include all of the following sections:
  • A summary of your project and the results
  • Write your summary for a general audience of faculty and students who may be unfamiliar with your content. You may include other materials in addition to your report (for example a published paper or final report written in conjunction with your faculty sponsor or other researchers), but these should not take the place of your summary.
  • A discussion of how effectively you accomplished your objectives.
  • An evaluation or reflective statement on your research experience.
  • Current transcript (unofficial)

Global and Moral Citizenship Award:

The Global and Moral Citizenship Award is for DSU undergraduate students who have demonstrated competency in the moral categories of equality and human rights, recognized responsibility for the global community, and made efforts to influence political power relations toward more equality and the appreciation of cultural diversity. Offered to an undergraduate student who exemplifies the spirit of global citizenship. The award is a stipend of $5000.

  • Full-time or part-time currently enrolled DSU undergraduate student

Application Requirements

  • Write a statement (min 500 words) explaining how you meet the criteria listed above.
  • Pictures, videos, media showing your leadership in action (optional)

Community Advocate Award

Do you have a passion for bringing about social, political, and/or civil change in our community? Does a particular cause or idea have your attention? Do you hope to apply these skills to your college education? URELAH wants to hear about it! The Community Advocate Award is for Delaware State University students that have demonstrated a vested interest in the development and redevelopment of Delaware’s three counties to include DSU’s surrounding campus areas. The award is a stipend of $5000.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Full-time or part-time currently enrolled DSU undergraduate or graduate student

Application Requirements

  • Provide a prompt response of 1500-2000 words to the following question:
  • What social justice causes are you passionate about or advocate for and what is it about this cause that has your dedication? Give specific examples of your involvement; we want to hear about the action you have taken, or plan to take, to help the development and redevelopment of Delaware (three counties) to include DSU’s surrounding campus areas.
